HOT COUNTRY IN THE SNOWYS WITH CMC
It was steaming in the Snowy Mountains this past weekend with the inaugural staging of the massive two-day CMC ROCKS THE SNOWYS roots and country music festival.
Presented by XYZnetworks’ CMC, Australia’s only 24-hour country music television channel, in partnership with Chugg Entertainment and Rob Potts Entertainment Edge, CMC ROCKS THE SNOWYS brought together an extraordinary line-up of local and international music talent, including Shannon Noll, John Butler Trio, Mia Dyson, Adam Harvey, and direct from the US of A, country music stars Patty Griffin, Gary Allan, Sugarland, as well as the legendary Jim Lauderdale.
In all, 14 great acts entertained thousands of music lovers throughout Friday evening and right across Saturday in the picturesque surrounds of Friday Flat, Thredbo.
The show kicked off on Friday afternoon with stirring sets from two diverse female country music powerhouses in the shape of ARIA Award-winning Mia Dyson, and American country starlet, Patty Griffin, followed by an energetic performance from iconic Australian rocker Brian Cadd. Brian was followed on stage by celebrated American duo, Sugarland, and the night ended on a high with an unforgettable show from the internationally-revered John Butler Trio.
Opening Saturday’s show on the stroke of midday was local newcomer Shea Fisher, followed by everyone’s favourite country music singing sisters, The McClymonts. The enigmatic young Newcastle singer/songwriter Morgan Evans was next, setting the stage for the incomparable Jim Lauderdale.
As day time turned to night, a trio of Australia’s finest and most celebrated contemporary country singers – multi-Golden Guitar winners, one and all – took turns wowing the crowd: Catherine Britt, Steve Forde and Adam Harvey.
They set the scene for a rocking finale featuring chart-topper, Shannon Noll, followed by the multi-million selling American country superstar, Gary Allan.
All in all, an amazing weekend of music, and what an unforgettable way for CMC to kick off its ambitious first foray into staging a music festival like no other – blending country rock, big country acts from here and abroad and non-traditional country but country-friendly acts. It’s all a part of CMC’s grand vision to bring live music to regional Australia and take local country music tastes to a new level.
For those who couldn’t be there in person for this momentous event – and for those who were there and just want to relive all the great music all over again – CMC has filmed two very special programs surrounding the festival which will premiere on the channel across April and May.
The first is a one-hour documentary – CMC ROCKS THE SNOWYS - which goes behind-the-scenes of the creation of Australia’s newest roots and country music festival. Featuring the highs, lows, joys and dramas involved in bringing the festival to life, the documentary will include some live performances from the festival, exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, interviews with the artists, and history-making vision of music lovers and fans in attendance.
Then in May, CMC will premiere CMC ROCKS THE SNOWIES – MUSIC EDITION, a one-hour solid block of the weekend’s music highlights.
It was a music weekend like no other, and the first of many thanks to CMC, Chugg Entertainment and Rob Potts Entertainment Edge, and, of course 14 of the best entertainers anywhere in the world.
