Jasmine Rae has had one of the fastest rising careers of any local artist in recent years. Her ARIA nominated debut album Look It Up yielded two #1 singles, with Australia's King of Country, Lee Kernaghan, describing Jasmine Rae as, "the hottest new artist to come out of Australia in a long time".
Her empowered second album, Listen Here is released on March 4, 2011.
With only one single release under her belt, the self-written chart topper 'Country Singer', Look It Up sensationally debuted at #5 on ARIA Country Sales Chart in September 2008. Jasmine Rae was then nominated for two 2009 Country Music Awards of Australia, including Female Artist of the Year. In the same year, Look It Up was then nominated for an ARIA Award for Best Country Album.
After topping the country radio and music video charts, Jasmine Rae was the first locally based country artist to achieve one million song plays on Myspace.
Jasmine Rae has already earned the endorsement of some of the world's biggest country acts, having toured with the likes of Brooks & Dunn, Joe Nichols, Tim McGraw, Dierks Bentley, Adam Harvey and most recently Lee Kernaghan throughout 2010. She's already performed at all of Australia's major country music festivals and at the world's biggest country music festival, the CMA Music Festival in Nashville.
Touring with Kernaghan gave her the best opportunity imaginable to connect with Australia's heartland and become even closer to people who are discovering Jasmine Rae's exceptional talent.
To support the release of Listen Here, Jasmine Rae was the opening act on Alan Jackson's first ever Australian Arena tour in March 2011 where she performed at the sold out Acer Arena in Sydney and Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, followed by three sold out shows at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.
Kicking off with the album's first hit single, 'Hunky Country Boys' the most notable point to make straight away about the thirteen track Listen Here is Jasmine Rae's obvious development as a world class songwriter. Her assessment of 'Hunky Country Boys' is one of "just being honest!"
Jasmine Rae's unique, genuine and refreshing creative touch is stamped all over her collaborations with credentialed songwriters from both the US and Australia.
"I have been very inspired and learned so much from working with each and every one of these world class writers," says Jasmine Rae.
"When words and music are your passion, it's a real privilege to be able to co-write songs with such talented people."
Then there's her incredible vocal range, soulful vocal quality, emotive and relatable songs and engaging musicality which resonates from start to finish.
Jasmine Rae's take on Australian country music is refreshingly unique. While making a record that fundamentally touches on the genuine issues, core values and passions of Australian country music fans, Jasmine Rae's edgier and less "text book" approach to her music also makes her very appealing to audiences who like a variety of different music styles.
"When you write a song, you can always say exactly what you meant to say in real life, or should have said, but was unable to stammer out at the time." says Jasmine Rae.
"Each song is like a little piece of closure."
The icing on the album's cake is 'I'll Try Anything', the stunning duet recorded with US superstar Joe Nichols. In securing this rare opportunity, Jasmine Rae joins a very small list of Australian country acts to record a track with a major US country artist.
"Joe Nichols has one of the most incredible voices in country music today. Pure liquid gold. I am thrilled to be sharing this song with him".
Listen Here was recorded in Nashville and is produced by Grammy nominated Australian Mark Moffatt, whose credits include Nick Cave, Keith Urban & Tim Finn. Moffatt has also recently worked on projects with leading US acts Jason Aldean and Gloriana and he produced the majority of the tracks on Jasmine's first album.
Jasmine Rae signed a major recording deal with ABC Music in early 2008 and this presented her with the opportunity to in fact record in both Australia and the US with two of Nashville’s leading record producers.
Her debut single 'Country Singer' was recorded with esteemed US producer and CMA Award winner, Richard Landis. But the recording didn't take place in the US. The single was recorded at Electric Avenue Studios in Sydney with many of Australia's finest musicians, including Rod McCormack, Matt Fell, Glenn Wilson and Mick Albeck. It was also engineered by Australian, Paul McKercher. Louie Shelton,, who has played on tracks such as The Jacksons' tracks 'ABC', 'I Want You Back' and 'l'll Be There', and Lionel Ritchie's 'Hello', also contributed his considerable talent to the single.
Landis described Jasmine's session as "one of great camaraderie, stunning musicianship and lots of laughter. Jasmine came equipped with far more than a great voice. She had cool production ideas and a really good understanding of who she is as an artist."
Jasmine Rae recorded four tracks in all with Landis, and then completed the album in June with Moffatt in Nashville. Moffatt produced Jasmine Rae's second single 'Look it Up' which topped both the country radio and music video charts in Australia.
Jasmine Rae's third single and Look It Up's opening track 'Pink Guitar' has a music video stylistically similar to the blockbuster Frank Millar feature film Sin City. It was produced by Conti Bros Films who produced the 2008 Tropfest winning short film, Marry Me. 'Pink Guitar' is considered one of the best locally produced music videos ever made in Australia. The track was later recorded by country legend Reba McEntire.
Jasmine Rae has performed at Carols By Candlelight in front of a national prime-time television audience, she visited and performed for Aussie troops in East Timor in 2008 and she graced the main stage at CMC Rocks The Snowys in 2009 while adding another string to her bow - co-hosting the CMC Rocks The Snowys television special. The special featured interviews with and performances from international guests Taylor Swift, Deana Carter, Joe Nichols and Corb Lund. Jasmine also opened for US super-duo Brooks & Dunn and CMA Award winner Dierks Bentley during their 2009 Australia tour.
In March 2011, Jasmine Rae was a main stage performer at the inaugural CMC Rocks The Hunter festival. In April and May, she will hit the road with her duet partner, Joe Nichols.
Listen Here will most definitely cement Jasmine Rae in the top tier of Australia's current generation of country music singer/songwriters. And with the endorsement of Kernaghan, Jackson, Nichols and so many others, expect her to make a prominent impact globally as well in the not so distant future.
